Treatment of occipital neuralgia may involve oral medications that are designed to reduce inflammation and spasms, localized therapeutic injections, physical therapy, massage, and heat. You should go to your treating Physician for a prescription which would suit you and your body condition and dosage. Take care!

I have occipital neuralgia and I take indomethacin, 50 mg twice a day. It helps keep the intense pain down. Doesn't take all the pain away but makes it tolerable at least. I also get injections in my occipital nerve. The first one worked great but this last one didn't do anything. I see my pain specialist on Friday so I'm gonna ask him what the next plan of action is.
Good luck.
