pelvic congestion

My neurologist has told me that this is not a spinal issue. The only visible problems on my MRI's is
" prominent perimetrial vessels which may be related to pelvic congestion". What do you know about this problem that may be related to my constant severe pain in hip, legs, and abdomen? The injections I have had did no good whatsoever. What kind of specialist deals with these vascular problems? What kind of treatment is prescribed to alleviate or manage this pain? This condition began a year ago and is getting progressively worse.

Dear kristice-

Thank you very much for your question.  I must preface my answer by stating that I am a neurologist and the pelvic congestion is far beyond the scope of my clinical experience.  From what I understand, this condition is related to an insufficiency of the veins in the pelvis such that the blood flows in a retrograde (backward) direction resulting in increased venous blood in the pelvic area.  In some patients, this may result in pain in the pelvic region.  I  cannot comment on the details of this condition, however you may find some help on either the gynecologic or vascular forums on this website.  I encourage you to discuss these findings with your primary care physician and/or your gynecologist.

Best of luck and have a happy and healthy new year!

Sincerely,
JBT, MD
