phantom ice pack on my head

phantom ice pack on my head

Please help.  I have been experiencing continual numbness in the top/center of my head and pressure inside my head for over two months now.  The sensation is as if someone is pushing an ice pack onto my head. Sometimes it is mild and just irritating, but other times it is incredibly intense and interferes with my daily functioning.  I am currently taking Fioricet which does not get rid of the symptoms but seems to keep it them from getting too intense.  I haven't had any headaches while on the Fioricet, which is nice.

I have a history of migraines and tension headaches but I've never had these symptoms before and never this chronic.  I also have lingering pain/discomfort from herniated discs L4 and L5 which occured in January of '08.  In October I woke from sleep with intense cramping in my leg, passed out, and stopped breathing.  A CT Scan of my head at that time showed nothing abnormal. A recent MRI showed no abnormalities except for mucosal thickening throughout the paranasal sinuses and large (up to 3.5 cm) mucous retention cysts in the maxillary and sphenoid sinuses.

My GP has recommended that I see a neurologist and has shown little interest in discussing my syptoms (symptoms) further.  I had an appointment scheduled for later this month but they just rescheduled me for March.  I am trying to find an appointment sooner but I'm devastated by the thought of waiting any more.  I'm confused and I have so many questions.

Could the numbness in my head be related to the disc injury? Or could it be related to sinus issues?  My GP was not concerned about the MRI findings but he did not talk to me in detail about them either.  I have had continual sinus problems that he dismissed before as "allergies" (I've never been allergic to anything) and I also have two disorders in which "cyst" is not a good thing (endometriosis and PKD).  He dismissed by back pain, too, until an MRI showed there really was a problem.  I just don't know what to think.  Does anyone have any insight?
