pineal gland cyst

by thai99, Oct 31, 2007 06:44PM
Hi,
In the last few yrs, i often had severe headaches and mumbness of my left arm and leg. the last 2 years, the symptoms got worse and more often than before. Sometimes, I can't feel anything with my left hand and leg. sometimes, i couldn't walk at all. I often experient the sharp pain that ran from my toes to the hip( left side) and from the finger to the shoulder( left side too)...My eyes feel so heavy and pressure. I talked to my friend (who is a internist and also a radiologist). I took an MRI. He found out that I have a pineal gland cyst that is 2cm in diameter. Do I need a surgery for this since it causes a lot of problems for me? How  will the surgery is performed? Thank you so much for your help.Have a good day!!!!

Hi.

Pineal cysts are basically fluid-filled sacs in the region of the brain containing the pineal gland. It usually does not cause symptoms unless it has enlarged and puts pressure on adjacent structures. Symptoms are commonly those of headaches and vision abnormalities. Surgery is only indicated when symptoms are severe.

It may be unlikely that your arm and leg symptoms are related to the pineal gland cyst. It would be best to consult a neurologist to have a proper neurological assessment.

Hope this helps.
