pituitary cyst 2cm

I have been having a range of symptoms for about a year now....daily headaches usually as I awake, numbness in my fingertips and pain (headache behind my left eye), extreme fatigue and most of all, a pretty significant amt of hairloss. ( I have been treated by demo for 2 years now for alopecia areata). I recenty saw an endo and found that i have Hashimotos, and was started on Syntroid.  She sent me for an MRI and told me I have a 2cm cyst on my Pituitary gland. She said to have bloodwork done in 3 weeks when I go for my thyroid levels and see her at the end of February. What is she looking for exactly? Is this something that can wait a month? Should I see neuro or can this be taken care of by and endorinologist.  Also can this be causing my hairloss, numbness and Hashimotos onset?  Can this be a tumor ? thank you for your time

Hi,
You said you have a cyst on your pituitary gland, is it part of pituitary gland or is it not?
The other answers for your question are as follow;
What is she looking for exactly?
+ She is looking for any other associated abnormality like excess secretion or diminished secretion of thyroid hormone, cortisol, growth hormone, estrogen or testosterone.
Is this something that can wait a month?
+ Yes if you are at present symptoms free, your treatment with Synthyroid is helping you, then it can wait.
Should I see neuro or can this be taken care of by and endocrinologist.
+ You can check it out with your neurologist for your concern regarding pituitary gland but this disease can be taken care by endocrinologist.
Also can this be causing my hair loss, numbness and Hashimotos onset?
+ I am not sure, but yes it some cases it can cause.
Can this be a tumor?
+ No, this is not a tumor.
Hope this helps you.
Bye.

I also have a small growth on my pituitary gland, a microadenoma.  Your reminded me to have my neuro check on it.  I just had a new MRI so I'll make sure they check that out.

Thanks for the reminder!

I have family with hashimoto's.  It's inflammation of the thyroid where the body is attacking the thyroid, destroying it's ability to do it's biochemical things.  Bloodwork will check for thyroid output.  It's not a tumor.

I was tested for it by my PCP, who was an internist.  I didn't need to see a specialist for it.  Endocrinologists specialize in glandular organs and biochemistry but aren't the only ones able to address your concerns.  If you have one, your PCP could probably work for you.
