Hi there.
Hydrocephalus results from abnormalities in production or absorption of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the brain. You can tell if the baby has hydrocephalus if the baby has enlarging head compared to the face, sunset eyes, and is accompanied by a multitude of symptoms including seizures and failure of cognitive and physical development. If the pressure of CSF is so high, the baby may have decreased sensorium, increased sleeping time, and frequent convulsions. If the cause of the hydrocephalus is not pinpointed (which happens to a significant number of patients), then it is treated using ventriculo-peritoneal shunts.
Regards.
