please tell me if I have a brain tumor?

by jfem4, Apr 15, 2007 12:00AM
I'm sorry to post this again, but I am really starting to make myslef crazy.

I am a 41 yo female.

About 3 weeks ago, I started to feel dizzy..just like I was either on a boat, or just had a glass of wine. It was not related to anything, not what I ate, or didn't eat, not positional, no meds, nothing different. Also, VERY tired, and fever range of 99.2-99.8.
I started to have pain and pressure in myear and rt cheek/jaw.
Went to the MD he said it was a virus, but sent me to ENT.
He saw my sinuses and said they were very abnormal looking. Red, swollen and inflammed. No drainage, no congestion, havne't had a cold, not stuffy.
Put me on prednisone for 5 days.
I'm on day 4.
The pain/pressure is better, still there, but better.

I still feel a little dizzy, on and off. It is definetly NOT getting worse...I have no wekaness, no tingling, no vision/speech issues...just on and off daily feeling of ona boat.

My questions:
Does this sound like a brain tumor?

Never had a sinus infection, does this cound like one?

I'm having a sinus CT scan tomorrow...if there were a brain tumor, would that even show it?

Do you think I need to see a neuro MD?

SOrry for all the questions, but I'm tired of not feeling well.

Yes see a neuro , i was looking at  a possible brain tumor in the summer , two lesions on my brain. They got less prominent, so it may be MS .  i hope you feel better. I was very scared to of a brain tumor but it wasn't one . Ty g. I am only a patient so please see your neuro

Personally, it doesn't sound like a tumor, but if you're that concerned, you should get an MRI.  You could be dizzy because of your sinusitis.  If it effects your ear and it's swollen or even inflamed a little, it could give you symptoms of dizziness.  And it'll be exactly how you described -- like you're on a boat.  Maybe you should see a specialist about that.  He could prescribe you ear drops that will help the swollen and inflamed infected areas of the ear.

Hi..your post is of interest to me because last August I had some very simlar symptoms.  Mine occurred overnight.  Tightness(no pain) in head with pressure in my ears, dizziness, occasional blurred vision, and some pain and numbness in my lips and nose.  These symptoms were bearable until I diagnosed myself with "brain tumor".  Take my advice...don't do that.  I literally put myself to bed until I could see a neuro.  My clinical evaluation was normal and I still demanded an MRI.  This was also normal.  The dr. diagnosed me with "neck tension causing pressure on cranial nerves".  It sounds as if you could have sinus or ear problems...they each can cause the symptoms you have described.  To ease your mind, however, I think a neuro visit would be in order.  But if he tells you it's OK...trust him.  Otherwise, you will end up with all kinds of symtoms created by the stress.  Best wishes for a happy and healthy future.

Hi!  I'm just wondering if maybe you just have an inner ear infection/vertigo.  I never had this before until a couple of years ago and went to the DR thinking I was having a stroke or had a brain tumor.  But it was just an inner ear infection with vertigo.  They gave me antibiotics and prescribed a good strong antihistamine and it went away.  Unfortunately, I have had a couple more inner ear infections since.  I also get vertigo problems (the dizziness-feeling like your swaying on a boat like you said) quite often.  I usually pop a Benadryl and it seems to help a lot.  Hopefully this is all that your problem is.  But, I would have the MRI just to be sure.  Hope this helps you in some way.  Take care!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that when I had the inner ear infections, I was running a low grade temp also.  My ear didnt hurt at all, and no sinus problems, cold symptoms, nothing.  Just low grade temp, dizziness, and nausea-felt like I was a little "car sick" from the dizziness.  I had a headache too, but I have headaches everyday-I have chronic daily headaches, so that wasnt unusual for me.  Anyway, just wanted to add that to what I wrote above.  Take care!
