by saalza, May 15, 2008 02:35PM
i'm a 40 year old mother of 3.  1 13 year old girl and twin 8 year old boys.  had c-sections with both.  after my boys were born in 2000 i had my tubes tied.  in july 2005 i started having pain in my buttocks and hip area.  after many doctor visits they sent me for a cortizone shot in my left hip.  was good for about 1.5 months and then the pain came back more wide spread and intense.  i've started having my period twice a month and cramps etc.  i'd never had any problems at that time of the month before any of this.  now here i am almost 3 years later.  i have pain in my back, hips stomach,c-section line burns etc.  the list goes on & on.  i can't sit or stand for a long period of time.  clothes irrate my skin.  i have to sleep with only a t-shirt on because of the irration of my skin. the docs have sent me for all kinds of tests.  but everything comes back negative.  but i know there is something wrong with me.  i don't know where all this is going.  all they wanna do is pump me with more meds that i don't want.  why can't i can't a doctor to believe what i'm telling them and look into it further.  i think something got damaged while having my c-section and tubal.  how can i find out if there is damage done in my stomach???  please help

Hi there.

It is indeed possible that some nerves may be damaged during your previous operations as an unavoidable consequence of every surgery.  However, I think it will be very hard to pin all your pain symptoms to this nerve damage.  There can be several causes to your pain including fibromyalgia or hormonal and electrolyte imbalances.  If a person also has weight problems, then he or she can be predisposed to all these types of pain the the areas you described.  When all work-ups turn out negative, then the pain can be labeled as idiopathic (meaning, the cause cannot be determined), and this can be management by pain-relievers and psychological counseling.  To test for nerve damage you may ask your doctor regarding an NCV test (nerve conduction velocity).  I suggest you discuss these possibilities with your doctors and I hope you can be rid of this pain soon.

Regards and God bless.
