post op pain

by fleaann, Dec 12, 2008 10:36PM
i had a c3 through c6 posterier cervical decompression and laminectomies, 10 days later my wound was red and draining in which i went to the er and had a mri of cervical spine with and without gadolinium contrast which showed fluid in the operative tract from the posterier dural surface to the subcutaneous fat. impression was that it was an abcess (abscess). surgeon came in same day and opened and said it was a seroma yet he put me back in hospital and gave me 4 days of vancomycin. this was last week. i ended up going back to er 2 days later because of a droop of left corner of my mouth and a pain behind rt eyeball that felt like it was being stuck with a toothpick. i was given compazine and nausea and eye pain stopped.(i also had been vomiting and not able to eat for several days after the vancomycin treatment) so i was dehydrated and given 1 liter bolus of fluids along with compazine. the eye pain and vomiting stopped and have not had any more but what concerns me is why do i have a droop to left mouth. my eye blinks fine so it is not bells palsy. it will not turn up when i smile. the last 2 days my pain has increased to presurgery level.not all symptoms have returned. i had weekness in my left arm and hand and it got 100 percent better and is still better. my problem is the pain returning but it is not all the same as preop. i can not since yesterday turn my head to the left without excruciating pain, i have pain in my scapula area and down my upper left arm.my neck sounds like it is grinding when i move it in any direction. this did this before surgery but had stopped. is this normal post pain or could something be going on since i had the post op infection. my surgeon is out of town and i hate to be a hyperchondriac and go back to er. i know something is wrong but what could it be?
