postherpetic neuralgia? - shingles

Hello,

My father had shingles last year, around May of 2009, among a great many other problems.  It was in his right hand/fingers, forearm, upper arm, and shoulder, but the pain (that oh so intense burning horror) was localized in the hand and fingers.  At this time (Feb. 2010), the shingles appear to have gone, leaving a slight sensitivity in his shoulder ... and a lack of feeling, strength, and dexterity in his right hand.  He asked me to see if I could find anyone who also experienced this numbness/weakness ... AND got better.

So, is there anyone out there who lived through shingles and came out the other side relatively unscathed?

Thanks!
