preparing to get off klonopin

Hi,
I am on klonopin 0.25 mg twice a day for a buldging disc in my neck in the c5-c6 area and also for an imflammed nerve on the c 7. I will be having an outpatient surgical procedure this Thursday as I was in the hospital last week. I am preparing to get off klonopin as my Dr prescribed neorontin for me 100mg 3 times a day.
How Would I taper off the klonopin? I am also on Dilantin as a prevention of seazures 230mg a day. 100 mg in the morning, 130 mg at night. All help would be appreciated.

Any medication changes need to be coordinated by your physician - I cannot do this for you unforunately as this site is purely educational
In general it is not good to stop a benzodiazepine medication cold turkey - this could precipitate a withdrawal reaction or a seizure (particularly in someone susceptibel to seizures). Klonopin is not as bad as it is a relatively long acting form but there is still this risk. Neurontin does not prevent this as it works via a different mechanism.
If you are still on it, discuss this with your doctor

I was able to get a taper schedule. Im currently now on 1/2 of .5mg of klonopin every other day and then will be completely off of it. Im going to be having neck surgery in the next week or two.

Good Luck with tapering off clonazepam its called in the UK. Hope your surgery goes ok. Take care Chris
