is it ok to take vicodin before having interlaminar epidural steroid injection

Hi there. I understand that you are about to receive epidural steroid injection. It is acceptable if you have been prescribed hydrocodone for pain and can take it provided the pain physician is not going to inject an opioid in combination with the steroid. This could cause cummulation of most of the effects including analgesia and drowsiness and sedation. Sometimes this may lead to respiratory depression and apnea, which can get hazardous if it goes unnoticed by health care provider and is not reversed in time by naloxone intravenous. it would be wise to bring it to the notice of the pain physician if you take vicodin.Hope this helps.
