Cipro xr I experienced a sudden burst of pain on the left side of my head where there are tendons located, just above the base of my skull, I have experienced sever pain in that area, with severe dizzines(not vertigo). I have had a mri of the brain which was negative. the pain I felt wasn't like it was in the brain it was in the skull area.
: : : : : My question is since floxin and cipro can cause ruptures, Is it possible for that part of the tendon in the head have a rupture also.I have suffered terribly since taking floxin/cipro
: : : : : Linda
: : : : Dear Linda:
: : : : Sorry to hear about your problems. This class of medications can cause CNS stimulation, which may lead to tremor, restlessness, confusion, headache, and very rarely to hallucinations or convulsive seizures. They can also cause nausea, diarrhea, and rashes and rarely renal failure. There has never been a reported case of this medication causing tendon bursts (?). In young animals it can cause cartilege damage but this has never been found in humans to this point. You may be experiencing headache. I am not sure what the dizziness would be from, long term use can cause an anemia, but one would not see this with only 5 days of use. Sorry that I am not much help.
: : : : It is not likely that so many years have gone by with cipro inducing these symptoms. It is problably a better idea to try and figure out another etiology for these symptoms.
: : : : Sincerely,

: : : Dear CCf Neuros:
: : : All PDR's and Drug inserts on this class of drug contain TENDON RUPTURE warnings/tendonitis etc.(these can happen during and after use) (see 20-40 studies that appear on Medline).
: : : See the petition of 1996 to the FDA from Sidney Wolfe on Citizen's Organizations Website that elaborates on studies worldwide
: : : regarding fluroquinolones and these adverse reactions. Hope this information will be helpful to you and anyone with a similar question.
: : You are correct, it was a post marketing adverse affect. In the first 29,000 doses of the quinolones this side effect was not seen. However, in the post marketing studies it was found. Sorry for my oversight.
: : Sincerely,
