"grating" in neck/strange sensation in head

by Elen__0__0, Jul 13, 1998 12:00AM

  Hi,
I have been having a grating sound/feeling in my neck.  Actually,
it's right at the base of my skull.  It's not painful, but at the same time,
it doesn't feel right.  Also, sometimes when this grating is real bad, I
get what feels like a pressure going up into the back of my head, followed
by a fuzzy feeling in my head.  Sometimes when I've had this sensation, my
eyes feel strange, for instance if I look from side to side, it seems like
it takes a while for me to register what I'm seeing.
  Any thoughts?
  Thanks...Ellen

Dear Ellen,
Grating sounds in your neck can be completely normal, to a degree.  Signs
of problems would include numbness or weakness in the arms or legs, occasionally
with shooting pains down the spine.  The symptoms you describe are not particularly
concerning.  Should the visual problems persist or worsen you might ask your
general medical doctor for an opinion.
Good luck.
