rehabilitation of infant encephalomalacia

by martiancn, Jan 12, 2009 07:46AM
my friends son is about 9 month old now. recently his parents found his right arm can't move. today's inspection shows he's suffering from encephalomalacia. it may be resulted from a falling to the ground  when receiving treatment in a hospital when he was two month old. the mother cried almost to death learning the result. both the parents are unemployed. they want to know how they can help their dear son to recover.
many thanks in advance!

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
Encephalomalacia can occur due to trauma to the brain. Unfortunately this condition is irreversible as brain once damaged cannot regenerate itself.
The management is basically controlling the symptoms with physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy.
Please ask them consult a good neurologist. Let us know if you have any other queries.
Take care!
