right side top of head tingling

right side top of head tingling

I am a 62 year old male who is on warfarin for afib.  About 2 yearfs ago I hit my head real hard. Shortly thereafter I started getting on and off tingling on the right side of thetop of my head.  Because of the warfarin I went to several doctors because I was worried about an internal bleed.  I have had 2 mri's and the nerologist and interneist both claim there is nothing to indicate any problem.  However, I still am getting the tingling every so often (incluiding right now). I am not sure what to do that can stoip these episodes. I was just recently given meclizine and got very nausceous so I stopped taking it. My next attempt is to see a otolaryngist since it seems that a dizzy feeling is now beginning to accompany the tingling.  Any feedback would be appreciated.  I also am on lisnipril, metropolol and simvistatin.

Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with your doctor.

Without the ability to examine you and obtain a history, I can not tell you what the exact cause of your symptoms is. However I will try to provide you with some useful information.

As far as neurological problems go, with episodic transient symptoms we worry about three things: migraines, seizures and transient ischemic attacks or mini strokes. It is unlikely to be the latter as it always occurs in the same distribution with out other symptoms.

Migraines very commonly can present with neurological symptoms, with or with out a classic headache. Sometimes people have a history of typical migraines in their adolescence and as they grow older the migraines disappear. Much later on in life they can reappear but can present differently, just with neurological symptoms like numbness, tingling, weakness, dizziness, without the characteristic headaches. If you ever had migraines in the past or have even a mild headaches with or after this feeling of tingling, I would strongly consider this possibility especially since now you also have dizziness.

The other thing to rule our would be seizures. However in the absence of any other neurological symptoms and just tingling, this would be unlikely.

I don't think that this had anything to do with you hitting your head and the fact that 2 MRI's have been normal, would rule out a structural lesion causing such a problem.

Also check to see if you were started on any medications round about the time these symptoms started to see if any medication could be the culprit.

I hope this helps. good luck!
