schwonoma tumor

i  was told that i had schwonoma tumors in my spinal canal by my first specialist i had one removed at t12 which already affected the lifting of my legs and feet and had impaired my walking.upon a 2nd opinion he has diagnosed me with neurofibrosis and advised that i have about 30 in my spine and now 1 in my brain.there is no evidence of anyone in my family having this before.Doctor will wait to operate and is doing a mri every 6 months to check their growth.i will need to have my 2 young sons checked for the disease too.is it true that there is no way to shrink or remove tumors whilst still small.has anyone had any experience with these sort of tumors?tumors are benign can they become cancerous?
