seeing "stars"?

by Kim__0__0, Aug 31, 1998 12:00AM

For the last two weeks or so, I have been seeing "stars" (similar to
when one gets up too quickly or hits ones head) in my peripheral
vision - it happens throughout the day, whether I am walking around, sitting
or whatever - e.g. I am typing this and getting random "stars" showing up
now and then.  As far as I know no traumatic events have preciptated it.
The other thing I notice is that one eye (right) doesn't seem "right"
  - looking at ite externally, it seems fine, but I cover the other eye and
the vision in that eye is slightly blurry.  I'm a bit concerned b/c I've
not experienced this before - any idea?

Thanks for the question. There are several possibilities some of which are more serious. Since it is affecting both eyes it is much less likely to be a primary ocular (eye) problem). I still think it is important that you have an ophtholomologist examine your eyes to ruke out retinal problems and to look for evidence of optic pallor as seen in optic neuritis. Migraines can also cause ocular problems that are binoccular but it should not last as long as yours dose. Even more srious problems such as tumors affecting the occipital lobe can cause such problems. I think you need a good eye exam and an MRI scan of your brain as soo as possible. Good luck
