seeking a diagnose

I woke up one morning with pain in my neck and a tightness in my chest, that made it hard to take a deep breathe.I choose to ignore it.  Later that day I was shopping with my mom and suddenly my neck attached itself to my shoulder, I could not lift or move my head.  Went to the emergency room I sat and waited, my right side released itself.  I did not want another medical bill, so I went to the person that was seeing the patients to let him know I was fine. The man said so I saw you as I walked by, he asked if I had a computer? On a tongue depressor he wrote (spasmodic torticollis).  For two days the tightness and not being able to take a deep breath persisted.  On the third day my left arm became week.  Now I got scared went to hospital while in waiting room my hand extended itself and it got tingly and very painful.  I began to hyperventilate. They did catscan, ekg everything came back fine.  They said it could be stress.  (Day 2) I lost all feeling on left side and right side became heavy, unable to walk, speech was slurred.  My sister called ambulance. When I got to the hospital the nurse that had tended to me the day prior came right up to me and said I told you have anxiety.  I replied look at me I can't move.  They sent me home with ten ativan and told me to see a psychiatrist. After one week I had no problems moving but my speech problem persisted and got worst.  I get sleepy with to much activity and it becomes hard to even produce words.  Sometimes I continue to repeat a kind of hissing sound uncontrollably

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
It is difficult to give a diagnosis without clinical exam and looking at test results.
There is a possibility that you are suffering from Hyperventilation syndrome. This syndrome is characterized by dizziness, tightness in the chest, chest pain, trembling, slurred speech, and lump in the throat and possibly ringing in the ears.

It is usually seen in people who are prone to anxiety, neurosis and depression.
I would suggest you to do some deep breathing exercises every day and et evaluated for underlying problem.
Keep us posted!

What kind of test do you need to determine if this is whats wrong with me?  Why am I still unable to speak clearly sometimes not at all?  And is the sleepiness one of the symptoms?  I no longer have the tightness and have never had the dizziness the first few days I would kind of go off to the side and could not keep my balance nor could I lift my legs up from the ground when I tried to walk, but now I walk fine all my motor skills seem to be back in order except the ability to speak clearly, even though it's been a month.  Thank you for your quick response and when I get test done I will keep you posted. Have a bless day.

Hi,

The gold standard for diagnosis of Hyperventilation syndrome is by asking the patient to breathe rapidly for 2 minutes. Rapid breathing triggers the symptoms.
Another possibility is Narcolepsy which is characterized by excessive day time sleepiness which can result in slurred speech.

This requires a close clinical evaluation.
