seizures again-encephalitis

Dx 2000.
tried anti seizure meds. didn't seem to help
forged thru, determined to get over it.
now, 5 years later, still have neuro symptoms
dx low NAA, temporal left seizures, partial & complex seizures.
quite often feel spacy.
however, believe i had or am having continuing seizure activity for 3 weeks +. into depression now, didn't want to go to neuro because(fill in the blanks)but wanted to wait until more convient time was going to wait another month.
didn't want to become a "patient" again, tests, meds, etc.
can these espisodes resolve themself?
quality of life not good right now.
whats the point of going back to doc if i don't get better?

I'm not sure from you information, whether you had encehalitis in the past and have been having seizures since then?

your seizures sound like they are focal, that is, coming from one area. Commonly patients donot respond to a number of antiepleptic drugs (although they are still important to take to avoid bigger and more frequent seizures then you already have)

However, if the seizure area is in the temporal lobe, surgical removal of this area has been shown to cure patients of their epilepsy, or at least reduce the number of seizures and reliance on medication in a substantial number of patients (depending on suitability, can be up to 80% seizure free)

If you would like to follow this up, the Cleveland Clinic Epilepsy Center provides a comprehensive service from initial evalaution to eventual epilepsy surgery
