seizures

My 11 year old son had his first seizure around a year ago.  He had all the tests and was found to be ok.  Around 6 weeks ago he had another seizure, then again last night (6 weeks later) he had another one.  The seizures have only occured when he has been asleep. They don't last very long, his body convulses and he froths at the mouth.  Once the seizure is over he has no recollection of it.  He is very tired afterwards and complains of a headache.  Within a couple of hours he is back to normal, (like nothing has happened). He is a very active young man and is in very good health.  Around 4 years ago he got hit on the left hand side of his head with a golf club, which resulted in him having to have stitches in his left eyebrow.  He wasn't knocked unconsious and within a couple of hours he was playing again. Occassionally he comes out with random rashes around his neck, they don't last for any significant time, and they don't bother him.  I was just wondering if this sounds typical of epilepsy or if you can give me any insight of possible cause.

About your post. While I'm not a doctor, I myself suffered seizures like your son, though mine( I believe) started earlier than 11. Mine only lasted about minute, only happened in my sleep, and I never recalled having them unless I woke up in the ambulance or ER.  I believe they occured more frequently too. They would sedate me at the hospital if mom caught on to what was going on. Most of the time my sister would wake me and said I had one. Or I would wake up with a headache on the floor.
I don't recall alot of my childhood though. My doctor now said I had Childhood Epilepsy and that the seizures were directed at my small and long term memory centers. My last seizure was when I was 14 and I'm doing well. I may not remember much of those years I had the seizures and I may have trouble with names and birthdates, but I have almost totall recall on books I read, even ones I read as a child. Funny huh? You might want to put a baby monitor in his room and record any seizures he may have and show his doctor. Sorry I couldn't be more help. I'll talk to my mom about it and see what she remembers.

Forgot to say that Childhood Epilepsy is common and goes away with time. You just grow out of it.
