severe left arm pain

by memommy, Feb 12, 2008 11:03AM
My son slept on my left arm every night for about 3-4 months, around the bicep area.  I started have severe pain all the way down my arm and in my shoulder.  I was wondering if it's possible that the pressure damaged something in my arm or pinched something.  I've had an MRI of the cervical neck and all it showed was arthritis at C5 and C6 but no pinched nerves or bulging disc.  I don't really get pain until I start using it.  I have no pain at night but pretty consistently all day.

Hello.

It is possible that you may have hurt your arms muscles. Since the MRI does not show any nerve impingement, it will be better if you go in for an EMG (electromyography) and nerve conduction study (NCS). These two investigations should tell you what the problems is.

How old is your son ?

My son is now 8 months old.  Is it possible that high dose Amoxicillan could have caused a tear or something?   A few days before this started I had insane head pressure that would come in waves hurting so bad my eyes would water.  They put me on 825mg Amox 2 times a day for 10 days.  About the 3rd day of taking it was when the horrible pain started.  I have allot of pain around both shoulder blades but my left shoulder blade, shoulder and all down arm hurts severely.  I am pregnant now so I'm unable to take medicine to ease the pain and I'm constantly in terrible pain but only during the day.  I never have pain at night or first thing in the morning.  I don't understand what it could be.  Please help.

Hi.

I have not come across any such adverse effects of Amox. And there is no evidence that this can be caused by Amox.

It seems your headaches are either migraine or cluster headaches. Did you have any fever or throat infection ? Why was Amox started ?

Regards
