severe muscle cramps

I suffer from severe muscle cramps that can affect the top of my ankles to my throat and antually any muscle in my body,the cramps have been bad enough where everything when gray, I broke out in a cold sweat, and did not know where I was.  Along with the cramps, I have muscle fasiculations and if I walk a lot then once I lay down, I feel what I can only describe as electical impulses through out my legs.  I am told my essential tremors are not related, which seem to be getting worse.  This has been going on for appx. 10 years and I am becoming weaker.  I did have an EMG and another test both were reported as abnormal.  I am 43 and I need to know what meds would I benefit the most from.  I was told by my neurolgist that they are unable to treat the disease process only the symptoms, but I am afraid not very well.  I am on Diazepam for the cramps.  Flexiril for the cramps as well.  Niether help unless I take more than prescribed.  Since I have been on these meds for so long, should I request a change?  He suggested a holiday which I did, but after a week I could not stand the cramps anymore.  I had the EMG around 8 years ago, should I also get a new EMG.  Have you ever heard of Hereditary neuromuscular  sensory - proximal?

There can be many possibilities in your case like chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia which cause muscle cramps along with tingling numbness. Hereditary motor and sensory neuropathies are known to occur like Charcot Marie Tooth’s disease. It is characterized by loss of muscle tissue and loss of touch sensations especially in the legs. It is one of the most common inherited disorders which usually begin in early childhood or early adulthood. Diagnosis is made by EMG testing, nerve biopsy.
