sharp neck and head pain comes and goes

I have had no surgery, no injury, no dental work.

This pain episode happens every couple months - around 6 to 8 times per year.
Lasts 1, 2 or up to 4 days.

I had my first episode when I was only in my 30s. Although very infrequent.
I am now in my late 50s and the episodes are much more frequent.

It's an extremely sharp pain that comes and goes every few seconds.
Just starts for no reason and ends for no reason.
It can be in the back of my neck going up into my head OR/AND the upper
and top part of my head. Can be on the right or left side.
NEVER - is it in my face or ear area, not in my back.

It is like someone it taking a knife and sticking it into my head or neck and
then releasing it. And repeating again over and over.

My short episodes last just 1 day, this week I am in my forth day straight.

I take over the counter pain, ie advil and it lessons the pain and makes each
attach a little further apart. Although I have to keep taking the pain pills or
it escalates again.

I didn't go to the doctor as he won't know the cause and will just subscribe
pain meds. I don't have insurance and a specialist would be very expensive.

I do have back issues with pain on occasion as well. This is normal back pain
that usually follows over doing it.

The pain in my neck and head come out of no where. Sometimes I imigine it
it because I am under stress, no sure.

After doing some research I am not sure if this pain is nerve related. It sure
feels like a nerve, although their are no nerves near the top of your head.

It is a painful mystery.
