sharp shooting pain back of head

I have been diagnosed with TMJ even though I have no clicking or popping or jaw problems, only pain in my ear and around my ear in a typical TMJ pattern. Recently, for about two months I have been getting sharp shooting pains in the back of my head and around my ear. It may happen once or twice a day, lasts for about 3-10 seconds and then goes away. It does not happen every day, I would say in the last month its happened once per week. Today is the worst I've ever experienced. Its happened 3 times today after a lapse of about 1.5 weeks. This new symptom concerns me. My TMJ pain had started to get better now this. I am 46 years old female with no history of accidents but I do have a history of extensive dental procedures including jaw correction surgery when I was 15 years old. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be or does anyone have this and know what it is. Thanks for your help.
