shoulder Pain

I have been having pain in my shoulder for sometime nows, but seems to be getting worse. Now it is waking me up at night and aching.
My shoulder hurts when I raise it up over my head, I have a hard time even getting my shirt on at times. Also it gets very tiresd and weak with just little use of it.
I was hoping that maybe someone could have any sugguestions. Also do you think I need to go to a neurologist for the problem?

Hi,
The most common causes of shoulder weakness and pain are rotator cuff tears and shoulder injuries that cause inflammation. Rotator cuff tears cause shoulder weakness by changing the mechanics of the joint. Inflammation may lead to shoulder weakness because the body involuntarily tries to protect itself from pain. Shoulder Bursitis also leads to the symptoms. There could be a nerve compression in the neck leading to the shoulder pain and weakness symptoms. Please go for X rays, EMG and MRI of the of the shoulder joint and spine to know the cause. Please consult an orthopaedist and neurologist for the diagnosis  and management. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
