sore to touch around my skull

First, I would like to say thank you to anyone who cares enough to read and respond to a complete stranger's question about their own personal pain.  For the last 2 weeks I have been experiencing pounding headache and very tender to touch around my skull to a point sometimes that I can't sleep.  I have been taking aleve to help me sleep.  In reading other posted Q/A, it is likely that the tenderness is due to wearing my hair up (a lot).  However, I have always worn my hair up and never had this problem.  Is there something else I need to be worried about?  Or am I just panicking for no reason.  Would the pain eventually go away?  Is there something I can do to help alleviate and eventually eliminate the pain?
