speech problem

by Liz__0__0, Sep 15, 1998 12:00AM

I wrote earlier concerning my husband's onset of a speech slurring.  I thank you for all the information you havve provided thus far.  He has seen his family physician and has had an MRI.  It showed no abnormalities.  My question is this.  Should we consider this over and done?  Can stress be causing the onset of the speech difficulties?  Because this appears to be the only symptom it has us baffled.  We are thankful that there does not appear to be a stroke, tumor, etc., but what else could be causing his difficulty.  We are not sure whether to investigate this any further.  Your advice on the matter would be helpful.

Thanks for your question.  It appears that your husband did have a very
thorough neurological evaluation (from reading this posting and all previous
ones) with all negative results.  It is indeed possible that his symptoms
don't have an "organic" cause.  Therefore, it is now important to identify
whether there have been important "stress factors" in the recent past that
might have contributed to his symptoms - changes at work, at home, etc.
I hope this information is helpful.  Best of luck.
