Hi Tisha,

I want to invite u to pop into the chiari/syringomyelia forum here on MedHelp....we have members that also have a syrinx and u can get info and support.

There is a org that has been involved in research called American Syringomyelis Alliance Project or ASAP....they r well informed and can help in answering ur questions.

Syringomyelia is another name for a syrinx...and this is a related condition to chiari. It is important that u find a chiari specialist to assist is determining ur needs.

How serious will be if the syrinx is large enuff to affect ur CSF flow.A specialist will look at flow and symptoms.

I hope to see u in the chiari/syringomyelia forum.

Godspeed

Hi,

It is difficult to comment without knowing your complete medical history, your present symptoms and clinical examination.

Syrinx in the spinal cord or syringomyelia occurs due to the presence of cavity filled with cerebrospinal fluid in the spinal cord. Syringomyelia can occur due to a brain condition known as chiari malformation or can occur due to trauma, meningitis, hemorrhage to the brain.
The treatment is usually surgical and depends upon the extent of neurological symptoms.

Hope this helps!
