stabbing pain related-herpes simplex

by jeanies, Nov 13, 2007 02:00PM
I have a fever blister on my lip.  It is almost healed.  I am experiencing sharp stabbing pains in my head on the left side.  Can this be a result of the herpes virus?

Hi, jeanies,

It could be possible that the sharp pain experienced by you is due to herpes labialis infection. The virus resides in Trigeminal nerve ganglia and at time patient can experience shooting pain along the nerves (trigeminal nerve branches). Your neurologist will start some medicines to relieve you of symptoms.
