strained muscle turning into lifellong pain?

Hello,

Within 6 month I strained muscles in both my shoulders when this occured I was in severe pain, experienced tingling down my arm and into fingers, limited motion in my arms. Both times doctors prescribed me muscle relaxers and pain medications. They also told me that I had sever muscle spasms around my shoulders. Ever since these two injuries whenever I move either of my arms or shoulders I can feel clicking and popping in the shoulders and also can feel my arms getting weeker. I can't sleep on my sides anymore because  if I do I wake up with pressure pain and strain in my arms and shoulder. Also my shoulder blades are painful by touch and there are certain spots in my shoulders that send a shooting pain up my neck when they are pushed. I am very worried as this is gettin worse and was wondering if there is an underlying problem, disease or any better  options for me other than medications. Also I was wondering if I should have an xray done.
