sudden head and neck pain

sudden head and neck pain

I had sudden onset of mostly left sided head and neck pain and it is continuing to increase.  No fever.  Mild nausea.  I do have a history of mixed connectve tissue disorder and fibromyalgia.  Howver, it has never presented like this.  I have been bitten several times over the past two weeks by mosquitos, even while wearing my repellent with DEET!.  They say there are no confirmed cases of West Nile Virus in my part of southeastern Arizona, but it is better safe than sorry.  What should I watch for?

Hi there.  West nile virus infection would present with fever, disorientation, and a wide array of neurologic manifestations.  I believe that your situation is very unlikely to be from west nile.

Your history of mixed connective tissue disorder may be the culprit regarding this symptom.  Connective tissue changes can indeed cause pain, stiffening and symptoms similar to fibromyalgia.

Be sure to inform your doctor about this and assess for the status of your connective tissue disease.

Regards and God bless.
