suffering severe muscle spasm attacks in upper arms

about two months ago I had a muscle spasm attack in my upper arm area on the right arm.  Since I have suffered three more attacks but now the attacks are in both arms but only in the front muscle area of the arms.  With each attack they get stronger and last longer and pain is now flowing down to the elbows.  Believe me I don't wish this pain even on my worse enemy.  The scary part is the third attack happened while I was driving my car and that scared me.  Tonight I just had the fourth attack and I couldn't hold anything in my left hand  after the pain stopped.  I picked something up to put in the pantry and dropped it.  Has anyone ever heard of something like this and does anyone know what causes it?  Should I be concerned to see a physician about this?  Thank you for any help offered.
