swallowing problem related to MS?

Posted By Jeanine on August 26, 1998 at 15:30:24:

I was dx 1987 with r/r ms. I am currently dx with secondary progressive. Along with many medications (skelexin, amantadine, oruvail, ditropan, paxil, motrin, axid, pepcid AC, perscription vitamins), I began betaserone June 2, 1998. About this same time I acquired a lump or blockage inside my throat, just above voice box. It has never gone away, at times seems smaller, then worsens again. Difficult to swallow, even saliva, food sometimes seems to get stuck there, I gag or choke at times. Some nights I have to gargle my throat almost like a snoring thru the throat, in order to fall asleep cause the swallowing is so difficult. I hate to blame everything on the MS. Is this an MS symptom? I called the 800 # for betaserone. It is not a known side effect at this time. My neurologist said he didnt believe it is due to the betaserone. I saw a ear, nose, throat specialist who did the scope with the rubber hose and saw nothing in the throat. My blood work for thyroid came back ok. What are the possibilities that could be causing this?
