swelling pressure at throat after cervical surgery

what can help reduce swelling at insision area that is putting pressure on throat which makes it very hard to swallow.I wonder what is causing this, it is very hard to just drink water? It is about as big as a small ball. This started about 2 days after front of neck surgery disc removed and fusion.? This is the 7th day from surgery. If anyone had the same problem please let me know what the out come was, thanks. Dave.
