swollen feet

by nic393, Dec 31, 2007 06:04AM
i have suffered swollen ankles for about 8 months, i was told it was due to the heat. but it is now mid winter and not warm at all. im 25, slim and heathy. i eat quite well and exercise alot. lately ive been expirencing numbness in my fingers. not sure if that would be related.
doctors checked for liver and hart problems with a blood test and nothing came up. ive just put up with it as its not painful but it is uncomfortable. sometimes it reaches my knees & i find it difficult to walk.
i mention fibromyaliga as my mum has suffered this for years, ive no idea if there could be any link with my mums illness.

any advice would be a great help.

Hi, I wanted to comment. I'm no doc or anything but, it seems that you're not getting much attention givien to your condition. They should at least be obliged to find out what it is. I think that your ankles and the numbness are related, and I feel that if it were myself in your position, I would be asking for a second opinion. Never mind about seeming troublesome, you deserve to find out once and for all. Good luck.

I had severe swelling in my ankles for over 3 years, and went to all kinds of docs, as mine were painful, as they would swell so bad i could not get my shoes on, and looked like i broke my ankle, it would swell so bad.  ANyway, they kept trying to tell me that it was due to phlebitis in legs YEARS ago, and i did not buy that, as why did they not swell before this.  Anyway, only thru a freak thing, i gave my dog a bath in tub, and thought i broke a rib, very painful.  After ER, and family physician visits, and had pain a month into this, they did a cat scan of chest, and found a grapefruit size cyst, in my chest cavity, between my lungs!  It is called a periacardial cyst. and it is something you are born with, it does not usually get that large, thus causing no problems.  I am not trying to tell you that is what you have, just that I KNEW something changed in my body and KNEW something other than what they were WRONG, but if i did not have freak thing happen giving dog a bath, wondered if i would have died before they figured it out.  ALL I AM SAYING IS BE PERSISTENT in finding out why.  It can be vascular, and if you were ted or compression stockings, which family doc can give you script for, if you have ins..makes a big diff!  Take care, and good luck!  You would want to see a vascular surgeon to check out the blood flow in legs from groin~

They are not paying attention to you. Flee and find another physician. At your age you should not have this problem. There are many possible causes I can think of, some serious, some not so serious, but this problem has to be diagnosed! Especially since it gives you trouble walking. Often a diurtetic prescribed such as furesomide/Lasix. Vitamin C in doeses of 1,000 mg or more is a diuretic with few contrandications. An ordinary old rocking chair is also helpful in relieving this kind of problem. Please try to find a physician who cares.

I have recently been diagnosed with chronic inflammatory demyelinating neuropathy, and
was hoping to find out, if swelling of the feet is a symptom of it, so your post caught my
eye. My swelling just started days ago. I don't have numbness, but it is a symptom of
my condition. You should see a neurologist, if you are having any difficulty walking, as
that was my first symptom. Also, tripping, and foot slapping were my early symptoms,
but were not recognized as a separate problem, because I had other foot problems. I un-
derstand, that symptoms vary from person to person, so you might want to get tested
for neuropathy.
