swollen optic nerve

by sharono5555, Apr 23, 2008 03:48AM
My mother of 61 had a large (bleeder) frontal lobe benign meningioma removed in November 07 apparently it had been there approx 12-15 years before being spotted. The surgeons managed to remove 95% as they considered the remaining 5% too risky she has been receiving radio therapy 5 days a week for the last 6 weeks she finished her treatment yesterday yet on visiting the ophthalmologist  he told use her optic nerve was still swollen (viewing the scan taken just before her treatment) and was concerned that another tumour may be present. He seemed very concerned and has sent out an urgent memo to the surgeon who removed the tumour so we just have to wait. I have all the scans taken before her treatment if there is another tumour wouldn’t it be present on them? We haven’t been told anything else, so are very worried now. Also the nurse mentioned that  the radiation treatment may be causing the swelling and too wait a few weeks. Any feedback would be most appreciated. Many Thanks
