symptoms?

symptoms?

Four months ago, I had a month-long bout with constipation, joined by mild fasciculations (all over, mostly in left calf muscle) and myokyma (weird eyelid/nose twitches); this has continued up to the present.  I have heard these symptoms can be benign, or a sign of disease and/or nerve damage.
  - Might it be MS, or the beginnings of MS?
  - or nerve damage?  If so, how would this happen and is it treatable?
  - Is it nothing?

Dear Rich:
Your symptoms are quite non-specific and occur off and on in many normal individuals. I think the most likely possibility in your case is that you are normal and have no neurological disease. It is possible that your perception of normal occurances is heightened due to stress or anxiety. The less likely possibility is that you have a serious neurological problem such as ALS, multiple sclerosis, or nerve damage, to name a few. If your symptoms are significantly bothersome and persistent, or if you develop new symptoms such as muscle weakness, persistent sensory loss, imbalance, visual symptoms, etc., you should seek a neurological consultation to rule out these more serious possibilities.
Good luck!
