syringomyelia and trauma

My brother recently had a trauma accident on his neck area. The neck area MRI has shown a syringomyelia at D3 area. Is it possible that this happened due to the trauma? He does not have symptoms that can be caused by such a syringomyelia. There are annular tears in C1 to C5 areas and the vertebral disc at C3 has displaced to press against the spinal cord which is symptomatic.

I also suspect that my syrinx came from a slip and fall in the ice last year. I feel terrible! My Neurologist said not to worry about my Syrinx because it was 2mm and as small as a pencil tip. Should I get a second opinion? He said I should leave it alone to see if it grows.  I have terrible symptoms after I work out, headaches and excessive sudden sweats. Should I ignore it and follow up?

Hi....A syrinx or syringomyelia can be either congenital (from birth) or from a traumatic injury as u described here. The NS/NL should be able to tell u which it is .
A syrinx due to trauma can take a long time to manifest or appear and grow rather fast.....

I would highly suggest getting a dr that is well versed in syringomyelia and related conditions like chiari to have the best review his case.

Good luck
