according to MRI result he has syrinx problem in spinal cord....in 1992 he got operated at SGPGI, Lucknow, at that time problem stopped but again for seven years it is increasing ....
pls tell me the solution.....
Thanks for writing in.
Syrinx in the spinal cord is due to presence of fluid filled cavity in the spinal cord. This puts pressurePressure ulcer on the nerveNerve biopsy Nerve conduction velocity roots exiting from the spinal cord leading to pain and weaknessWeakness on one side of the body.
The syrinx elongates and expands with time leading to worsening of symptoms. I would suggest you to consult a neurosurgeon at your earliest as any delay results in permanent damage to the spinal cord. Surgery is the only treatment as ************** is of no value.

My son aged 11 has been in pain for months and was diagnosed with M.E. He has just had a MRI scan and we have been told he has a syrinx. What has caused this? And does this mean he does not have M.E afterall? He is due to see a neuro surgeon and I am worried about what treatment if any is required.
Hi...A syrinx is a cyst filled with CSF and they can grow and cause blockage of normal CSF flow.A syrinx can form due to an injury. Most common in the cervical spine but may be found elsewhere inthe spine.
A condition called chiari malformation can cause a syrinx to form as well.
U need to look at what area his MRI is of...was it w/wo contrast? and, make sure u have him checked for chiari and tethered cord.
U may find more info in the health pages and our chiari forum here on Medhelp.
Good luck and I hope to see u in the forum
