ten years of temporary cognitive impairment

ten years of temporary cognitive impairment

Hi all, I am 38y old male, in good health. I have suffered debilitating symptoms for the last ten years.  They can be described as bouts of confusion, memory loss and general cognitive impairment. They last from several hours to a few days and then I am back to normal. Frequency differs but I get a bout of confusion  3 -4 times a month. The symptoms are not getting any worse nor better.

I  have seen close to 20 doctors, had an MRI, EEG, eye test, sleep apnea test,  endo, allergy; all test came back negative. At the end I accepted that anxiety is the most probable diagnosis (it was in fact the first diagnosis I received many years ago); it explains pretty well most of my symptoms except one.  From time to time, out of nowhere with no apparent triggers, I suddenly have this hard to describe weird feeling in my head. It lasts several seconds and it’s not painful, unfortunately it is followed by severe confusion that usually lasts two days. I do not lose consciousness during these attacks and in fact people around me don’t notice anything. One psychiatrist suggested that it can be a panic attack but I don’t think so, I can get it while I am perfectly calm reading a book or having a dinner and it is not accompanied by fear or other symptoms that are usually associated with panic attacks.

It seems to me that I may have two conditions at the same time; anxiety and something else. One could have possibly lead to the other one. Can you please speculate what could cause these weird short attacks ? Could that be an atypical  migraine ? What else could it be ? Of course, anything and everything you suggest will be discussed with my doctor.

Thank you,
Dudley
