tests

My husband went to the ER over a week ago with severe pain in the right, middle top of the head.  The pain was so bad that his whole body would convulse in pain about every 4 minutes for days.  so far they have given him a CT scan, MRI, EEG, MRA, and now are ordering a CTA test.  Is it normal to have this many tests?  They were unable to diagnosis anything off of the CT scan and MRI, the other tests results have not been shared with us yet.  He had the MRA today and a few hours later the hospital called and said the doc had ordered a CTA test for tomorrow.  I am leaving for a business trip and am very worried to leave him if there would be a reason to add this test at the last minute.  Why would a doc add that test?  What could be the possible issue from the other tests that would require a CTA or is that a part of a "full workup"?

Well, what a crazy day.  They ordered the CTA because in the MRA it looked like one of the two main arteries to the brain had collapsed or was blocked becaues the blood flow stopped.  They did the CTA today and they said everything looked normal.  They were very serious when we got there and they thought he would have to go into emergency surgery.  So while we are glad that was not the case still very frustrated that they have no idea what is wrong with him.  Thank you for your concerns and thank your for responding

Hi, well doctors may be are trying to pick up something which was not clear on MRI or CT.Sometimes vascular lesions or small dilations of vessels are not appreciated in MRI, to confirm these dilations or aneurysms they conduct CT ANGIOGRAPHY.Please don't be apprehensive of outcome as proper diagnosis is more important rather than a miss!.Be hopeful, all will be fine.
