thigh pain

Help.  I have severe anterior thigh pain through out the day, but more pronounced at night preventing sleep.  The pain can be in one thigh or both thighs.  It is awful.  I am in perimenopause and have uterine fibroids.  Is it possible a fibroid could be impinging on a nerve causing this pain as it does get worse when I lay down?  Please help.  I have had this problem for over two years.  Multiple tests, bone scan, MRI of back, tons of labs.  All come back fine.  This is not in my head.

Hi there. Your fibroids though cannot cause these symptoms directly but if the uterus has become enlarged like a gravid uterus it could impinge or irritate the lateral cutaneus nerve of thigh causing meralgia paraesthetica by seat belt injury or irritation of nerve at the anterior superior iliac spine. EMG and nerve conduction studies are required to confirm the diagnosis apart from the description.  treatment would include rest, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, loose undergarments, weight loss if overweight and abdominal muscle strengthening exercises, drugs for neuralgic pain like gabapentin and amitryptiline etc. take care.

Hi,  look up Meralgia Parasthetica.  I think you'll find it fits your symptoms.

Good luck.
