traveling joint and muscle pain in legs

I have had this problem for almost a year.  I have seen my doctor and he doesn't seem to know what to do.  I have been x-rayed for arthritis and he has changed all my blood pressure perscription, but the pain persists.
Problem:  random, sharp pain in left hip, left groin, left thigh muscle, both knees, both calf muscles, right foot (top of arch), right toe.  The pain is like a knife and can be there one minute and gone the next.  It travels from location to location. Some days one spot, other days it will switch to another.  I went to a doctor who said I have a mild amount of arthritis in my knees, none elsewhere. I am healthy otherwise and have no pain above my hips. I cannot do any physical activities anymore as the pain has increased greatly. I am an avid bowler but I can no longer 'slide' on my left leg.  I used to walk daily but I can't walk at all anymore.  I can only ride a bike without pain.  I just need to know what types of tests I should have performed, and what type of doctor I should see?  I thought maybe an MRI or bone scan from a neurologist?  So far my Doc has only scheduled x-rays and blood tests.  Which have been normal.  Please help if you can. thank you.

The fact that this pain sems to move around from place to place, and comes and goes irregularly would suggest to me that the problem resides in the nerves themselves rather than the anatomical structures they supply.
These types of pains have been reported with problems of the sensory nerves or their roots from the posterior part of the spinal cord.
as regfards the types of tests to be performed I would suggest that you consider an MRI of the lumbo-sacral spine and possibly an EMG to study the nerves which supplynthe anatomical regions in which the pains occurr.
These shooting pains have also been reported as an early symptom of diabetic neuropathy, so a blood sugar test should be doner also. In general you are probably better of if you consult as neurologist who specializes in peripheral nerve disorders, if you wish to have an opinion here atthe cleveland Clinic the number foer EMG appointments is (216 ) 444 5559.
