treatment for bowel incontinence

treatment for bowel incontinence

I have had MS for 15 years.  I spend a lot of time in a wheelchair.  I am on Betaseron and oxybutamin.  I suffer occasional bowel incontinence, usually at the same time that I begin my monthly menstrual flow. At other times, there is a 3-4 day period between bowel movements.  Is there anything I can do (or meds I can take) to help eliminate the bowel incontinence?  (I have recently found (through a medical exam) that I have uterine fibroids.  Don't know if there is any connection.)
  Thanks for your reply!

Thanks for the question. These are not uncommon problems in patients with MS. There are test that can be done to determine the cause of your incontinence and then techniques and medications that can be given to help with the problem. These procedures are usually done by gastroenterologists or colorectal surgeons. I would ask your doctor to refer you for an evaluation. Good luck
