trigger point injections

Hi, well I'm 20 and I've been having chronic neck pain since I was 3 years old when I stress fractured my neck. I have also been in 2 car accidents that have resulted in whip flash twice and a concussion twice. Well I recently saw a neurologist and was told that I've got arthritis, nerve damage, and my cervical spine is now straight where it should be curved. I just got trigger point injections done 2 days ago and I got 10 shots. Well its still a little swollen and I have been in a lot of pain today, actually woke myself up in the night cuz I was in so much pain. I was just wondering if anyone knows if this is normal?

I got trigger point injections, the pain has mostly subsided thank goodness! If it doesn't fully go away by tomorrow I'm going to call my neurologist. Thanks for the help!

Hi there. Did you get trigger point injections or epidural steroid injection?  trigger point injection is done to treat painful areas of muscle that contain that contain trigger points or muscle knots that form when muscles don’t relax. Trigger points may irritate nerves around them and cause referred pain or pain in another part of the body. The injection contains a local anesthetic and corticosteroid. It is expected that after these injections pain should decrease and not be aggravated. The other possible injection s an epidurally given local anesthetic and corticosteroid combination if there is disc prolapsed or degenerative disc disease. It is unusual to get worse pain with these injections so I suggest that you revisit the neurologist for a reassessment. Hope this helps. Take care.
