vegas nerve

My grandson is 21 months old. When he gets upset he cannot catch his breath and passes out. He has seen the neurologist who has explained that his blood pressure bottoms out and this is why he passes out. It concerns me because his lips, and entire face turn blue and he becomes as limp as a dishrag. We have been instructed to lay him on his side and that once he passes out he will be able to breath again. Are we correct to understand this is something he will outgrow. It is not him holding his breath it is that he loses it when hurt or mad.
