very sharp head pain

The shooting pain about 1in. above my right ear so bad that some times I have to hold my head where the pain is and close my eyes. The pain last about a min. or so but lately I get these about 6-8 times a day. What do you call this and is there anything I can do for it????

i been getting them to but all over my head at any time but my paint is only for 3 to 4 seconds an no more that 10 seconds i seen my neurologist and he told me its muscle tension. around my ears. i been suffering with this problem for over 6 years it come and goes. You should see your family doctor, It can be anything from stress to change in weather. But they are called Ice pick headache where a sharp pain will shoot all over your head at any time an any place.

Hi, this could be due to nerve involvement (neuralgia) or muscular headache. Sharp shooting pains are seen in trigeminal neuralgia whereas pressure headaches are mainly associated with tension headaches. Do consult doctor for investigations.
