visual disturbance after open heart surgery

by clicker, Jan 21, 2007 12:00AM
After open heart surgery (7-27-06) I have experienced the following: migrain auras across my eyesight on a daily basis; dizziness lasting only seconds to almost a minute; double vision (up to 3 or more times daily) which at times pulls me to the left and/or lose my balance; and what feels like heavyness flowing from the top of both eyes down to what feels like the middle of my vision, however I can still see through the blackness.  The best way to describe what I see is "dark fluid coming down from the top of my eyes in uneven lines and stops midway causing some unbalancing and tightening of the eye muscles." I was a migrain sufferer until surgery, I have had very, very few migraines since surgery and Imitrex has handled them. Sometimes when I look out the corner of my eyes or quick eye movement I feel the dizziness and slight blurring and have to refocus. Opthamologist said no pressure or blood clots behind eyes, possible optical migraines(?).  On coumadin, blood still not stable, ranges from 1.3 to 2.6, I have a St Judes valve. Frustrated, can you help?

Wow, you explained your symptoms well.  I suffer from the exact symptoms - the only difference is I have never had a heart problem or any surgery for heart related condition (s). My episodes with this have been increasing and they are now affecting my daily ability to function. I've been suffering from this for years and went to see an opthomologist 2 years ago who also told me there was no unusual ocular pressure, blood clots or presence of tumor.  Please let me know if you find out any new information and I will do the same.
