I had an L4 L5 S1 bak cage with fusion on may 30th 2007 . When i woke up from surgery the first thing the dr asked me if the pain in my leg was gone (nurve pain) and it was. After spending 3 day in the hospital i went home and began recovering witch was faster then i thought it would be . I had not felt this good in a long time . 12 days after surgery i was in an auto accident almost intently my legs felt like they were on fire and i had an pins and neadel sencation from my buttox down bouth legs. after they used the jaws to get me out of the car the EMTS layed me flat on the stretcher and the pain was much worst it felt as if someone was trying to pull my legs off. after getting to the hospital they let me sit up and the pain went back to pins and neadles ever sence then the pain in my right leg has returned and now i have nurve pain in my buttox and i have pain when useing the bathroom in my right foot and my privet area gos numb 4 to 5 time a month i have alout of back pain somethime i cant even walk. my dr did do more MRI and said i didnt need any surgery that the cage was fine. v been to a few dr but all say the same thing theres nothing they can do and they dont know why im in this much pain. could i have reingerd something in the car accident? why cant they find the problum? they say they cant see the nurve becouse of the cage in an MRI. i had an EMG and that dr said there was L5 posibal L4 nurve damage but then another dr says its from my prevous problum. im just wondering what you might think the cause could be . should i just learn to deal with this . i cant work i bearly sleep becouse of the pain. please help any sugestions. thanks

Hi,

Thanks for writing in to us.

Chances are more that you injured your L4-L5 nerve roots in the accident because according to your post you seemed to have recovered completely after the surgery. However the possibility of previous injure getting worse due to the accident also cannot be ruled out.
You can check about physical therapy under a trained instructor with your treating doctor. The response to physical therapy will depend upon the extent of nerve damage.

Alternate treatments like Acupuncture and Acupressure may also help you.
